How can mothers do justice to themselves?

A mother texted me the other day contemplating whether or not she should go to PPUM to seek professional help about her depression. I rang her trying to convince that she should because AT LEAST she could acknowledge the state of her mental health.  Alhamdulillah she took the first step to live a happy life. And her next appointment is in 2 weeks time.

Moms and dads out there, especially the young ones, if you feel like your life has turned upside down, it’s probably time to go to the hospital and do justice to your soul. If we go and see the doctor for fever or even the slightest flu, we should really do the same for our minds. Let alone if you feel like ‘murdering’ your baby or been shedding tears everyday for no exact reason.

In fact, I remember going through that phase where I felt no hope to continue living. I thought I’d be better off died in my sleep and I regret waking up in the morning.

“Why didn’t I just die in my sleep?”

This was then ya. Now, not anymore alhamdulillah. I have refilled my hopes and motivations, I now have my dreams again and I’m keen to getting there. But I still need help to tighten up any loosened screws. I need help to reshape my thoughts and hold a positive mind about my life. So I too went to the PPUM a few days back in search of solutions. I still got a long way to go but insha Allah, I’m not going to give up. I have 3 kids to care for from teenage to toddlers and they all need a healthy mother. And hey, I have a husband who’s been there through thick and thin for the past 4.5 years!

Moms, stop suppressing your emotions. Instead, address them accordingly. We’re going to do this together okay but I need you to do your parts too. Go and search for the nearest psychologist or psychiatrist to your place, get some rough ideas of their charge and processes, and book an appointment. Please, I can’t help you with this. You have to play role. You gotta save your own life before even thought of saving others.

And oh, PPUM stands for Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya. Here’s the link to their Klinik Psikologi [CLICK HERE]
